Guys, slick back your hair in a ducktail and gals pull out those poodle skirts as the Akron Civic Center and Western Reserve Public Media present Doo Wop Celebration V.
From the original "Rock & Roll Revival" show at Madison Square Garden which led to the feature film Let the Good Times Roll, Richard Nader Entertainment Inc. proves that Rock 'n Roll never forgets the top Rock 'n Roll pioneers.
With amazing style and songs the Charlie Thomas Drifters will have you singing along with "Save The Last Dance For Me", "Under The Boardwalk", "There Goes My Baby", "This Magic Moment" and more. Those chart toppers, and his unusual longevity in the music industry earned Charlie a spot in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Join in with the American classic "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" when Jay Siegel's Tokens take the stage. The group started singing in their high school bathroom in the 1950s and 1960s and found fame with their hit songs "La Bamba', "Please Write" and "Portrait of My Love." The group re-emerged in the 1990s, when the movie blockbuster The Lion King was release, and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary Jay Traynor, will sing his Billboard Top Hit "She Cried", which was recorded in 1962 when he was the lead singer of The Original Americans.
The Vogues, who hail from Turtle Creek Pennsylvania will perform many of their nostalgic hits including "Turn Around Look At Me", "Five O", "Clock World", "You're The One". The Vogues were inducted in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001 and tour with original members Hugh Geyer and Bill Burkett.
Join in the chant when Gene Chandler the "Duke Of Earl', takes to the stage complete with his top hat, cane, and cape. Chandler appeared in the full 'Duke' outfit singing in the 1962 movie Don't Knock the Twist with Chubby Checker. This is the 50th year of "Duke OF Earl" and just proves nothing can stop the Duke.
