T J Ambers Restaurant

We took our mother out for lunch because it was her birthday. My husband and mother ordered all the fish you could eat. They thought the fish was good but the tartar sauce was the worst ever. I ordered the greek salad. I was surprised that it had no feta cheese on it. The waitress offered to put another cheese on but I told her I would just take a salad and she did not have to make another salad, I would take that one to save from waste. They still charged me full price without feta cheese. The manager was a little rude and really did not care about my problem. She said she was Greek and that is how they decided to make the Greek salad without feta cheese. For the price of their so called Greek salad, very pricey for a bowl of lettuce.

Consistently inconsistent

Went there the other day. Server took our beverage order (water), brought it to us about 5 min later, forgot to come back to get our order, asked about drink refills but never got them, forgot to bring our soup but tried twice to give us salads that we hadn't ordered, and by the time she brought the soup then they were "out" of bread, and never did bring the ketchup I requested. As we were eating she said the bread "had just come out of the oven" and asked if I still wanted a loaf. I said I did, and she brought us a loaf that wasn't even remotely warm and frozen butter. Where did the oven come into this???? Our food was good, but the service was terrible. It never just seems to be OK here - either great or terrible!

Great Food with Friendly Service

I avoided this place like the plague for several years after being insulted by a manager when I had a complaint because there was a hair in my food. Anyway, I heard this place changed hands but was very reluctant to go back. I am glad I finally did. My husband loved the catfish from years ago, but they no longer have that on the menu. Instead they were featuring Ahi Tuna. Never thought I could ever afford Ahi Tuna. A huge portion was only $12.95. It was covered in a sweet orange sauce, three breaded shrimp and a mixture of vegetables. It was simply delicious. My husband gave me a piece and by the time I was finished with my bite he was done. It was huge. I wasn't as hungry so I tried the Rueben Sliders. I was expecting White Castle size sandwiches, but to my amazement these where three huge sandwiches. The corned beef, sauerkraut and cheese where pouring out of each sandwich. Before when we went there all sandwiches came with chips, no substitutions. I do not like chips so I was very pleased when the waitress asked me for my side choice. Now all sandwiches come with a side, something I know a lot of us complained about to the former owner but he never got it. This new owner gets it. Question I have is with such a great restaurant in this area that is not overcharging its patrons why isn't this place packed all the time?

Good service but awful food

We didn't like the food the first time we went there a couple of years ago but decided to be fair and try it again. The waitress was a sweet girl who tried to answer our basic questions. I settled on a Gyro and bean soup and hubby had the deep fried all you can eat fish. The fish was "fishy", the soup was beans in water basically (not seasoned even with salt) and my Gyro had NO TASTE at all.......Even the so called cucumber sauce with the Gyro was bland and more like runny sour cream than Gyro sauce. I ended eating my husband's tartar sauce to give the sandwich some symblance of taste. The other restaurants in the area were all packed but there were only three tables (countinig ours) at TJ's with customers seated.
With food that lousy, no wonder they had no business at 5:00 supper hour. We won't go back.

Class reunion

We recently had our class reunion at the amber and had a wonderful time. They have a huge banquet room with a breakfast buffet that is very economical. The food was hot the room was nice and comfortable and the service was great. The manager was very receptive to our special requests and everything was perfect. The manager made sure we were very happy from the moment we arrived to our departure. the best part was that we were never rushed out. Since it was a reunion we needed time to catchup with each other and we were able to do that peacefully at the Amber. Simply the best reunion we ever had.

Horrible

We will never eat at that place again. The worst of the worst restruant. Silverwear was dirty, the place is outdated, the food tasted old and outdated just like the restruant itself. Thank goodness we didn't have to pay for our meal. Yuck! SHUT THAT PLACE DOWN !

What a Difference

I went to the Amber a few months ago and was greatly disappointed with the service and with the food. I called the next day and talked to the new owner who recently took over the opperation. He greatly sympathized with my complaint and invited me to try them again. Reluctantly I did and wow, what a complete turn around. The food was wonderful and the new owner came by several times to make sure everything was perfect. (greatly appreciated)
This restaurant has had some real ups and downs since the new owner has come along but it is great to see someone who cares about their customers to fix what needs to be fixed. I will definately recommend

Jac

My family went to TJ Ambers today and our experience seemed more fitting to that seen on a sitcom.
I tried to order catfish, a meal I had enjoyed on previous visits. It was not on the menu however the waitress insisted it was still served. After much to do it ends up that catfish is not served anymore. I ended up ordering the battered dipped cod filet's. The problem with this was, It was not mentioned that because it was Friday they had all you can eat fish dinners for $7.50. This fact was not mentioned by the waitress. :( (it would have been nice)I then asked the waitress if they still served onion ring because it also was not shown on the menu. Turns out they still serve onion rings. (it gets better I promise) I ordered asparagus as one of my 2 sides. After 5 minutes the waitress returns and says the asparagus has gone "BAD" and is not going to be served today. (honesty was appreciated)
I then overheard the waitress saying that the deep fryer oil maybe contaminated. I was taken back a bit because the battered cod fillets I was served smelled very fishy, as though it had sat unrefrigerated for days. We had not been to TJ Ambers in over a year mainly because we live in Cuyahoga Falls. This restaurant has gone down hill since then. I'm sorry but I will not recommend this restaurant anymore.
