Dvořak And Tchaikovsky
A pairing of works by two of the greatest melodic masters, written almost simultaneously on opposite sides of the world. Composed during his time in New York, Dvořak’s Cello Concerto is a wistful, lyrical love letter to his Bohemian homeland. In contrast, Tchaikovsky’s emotionally turbulent — and genuinely gorgeous — final symphony explores the triumphs and tragedies of life. In this work, the composer declared, he had put his “whole soul into” the music, only to die soon after the premiere.
