In Europe during the 1700s, wealthy dignitaries and royals played an important role in nurturing and patronizing the arts. They commissioned extraordinary paintings and music to proclaim their status and to celebrate key moments in their lives. Leading composers such as Mozart, Haydn, and Bach received lavish salaries and residencies in exchange for providing music for momentous occasions. Join us for a series of live classical music performances that evoke the splendor of the era, in honor of Eyewitness Views: Making History in Eighteenth-Century Europe.
