Many different ministries and ways to serve!

I have been to several churches in my life and was spiritually slaughtered because I have a bipolar disorder. I only came to Grace as a last resort and only because I wanted my children to learn about God. That was almost 5 years ago! Not only have I been loved and accepted there, but God is also using the classes and sermons to help me grow. They have a great kids ministry where the Bible is more than just a bunch of old stories! I believe they teach that Christianity is more of a relationship with God than just a religion. Of course no church is without its flaws, there will be no perfect church because the church is made up of imperfect people! This is the most biblically based church I have been to. This is not the health wealth and prosperity gospel nor is it the hell fire and brimstone teaching. I see a few seeker friendly things here, but they still focus on the true gospel of Christ. It isn't just about building a church. Their motto is Love Jesus, Grow with others and Serve the world. I've learned how to love again, I'm growing in my faith, and this Fall I will be serving in one of the many ministries and/or recovery groups.

I give Grace Church a A+ in all they do.Actually ,I am a Roman Catholic but also attend Grace.I have always been highly respected by all members even if I'm not a member. They have provided classes and tons of opportunties to grow closer to God.The Pastors are knowledgeable and truly care about you and your walk with the Lord. What I have found is a true blessing and am reminded daily that it is not about religion but your relationship with God.This chuch has a solid message-one that everyone should embrace..My love for the Lord has grown with both my Catholic experience and my many classes and services at Grace.I recommend you come and gain the benefits I have been given. It is a remarkable church!..............nck

Has good points, but not strongly recommended

Grace Church has its good points; for example, it has a strong missions focus and a sense of community. I wouldn't really recommend it though, despite these positive traits. In my judgment, the church needs to be more discerning in its use of materials and more careful in its teachings.

The church has had a habit of jumping on the bandwagon -- embracing the latest Christian fads. The problem is that a lot of books and literature out there aren't necessarily very good.

Consider the Prayer of Jabez, for example. It was hugely popular, but after a while, many churches realized that it was a big fad, and that it tended to promote wealth and prosperity teaching. That's why I was disappointed to see that the church continued to endorse this book, long after other churches had abandoned it.

Perhaps the biggest problem is the tendency to use the "seeker-sensitive" tactics of Bill Hybels and company. Such tactics are popular, but highly problematic (see www.seekersensitive.com). They're good for increasing attendance, but not good for promoting deep spiritual growth. (In fact, the Willow Creek Association recently admitted that their tactics weren't working. Google "Willow Creek" and you'll see what I mean.)

I've also found a relative lack of spiritual maturity and theological depth among many leaders and long-time members. I say this very hesitantly, as it's not a judgment to offer lightly -- especially in light of their zeal and apparent love for the Lord. Still, I think it's true, and I suspect that it's largely due to the "seeker-friendly" approach which they adopt.

In short, Grace Church is a well-intentioned church with missionary zeal and a sense of family. Their pastor is also a gifted speaker. Their main shortcoming is a tendency to be careless in the materials that they choose and a lack of discernment. For this reason, despite some wonderful qualities, I can't really give them a strong endorsement.
